Act II Playhouse in Ambler, Pennsylvania opened their 2013-2014 season with a world premier play, Didn’t Your Father Have This Talk With You?  Tony Braithwaite wrote this original play, as well as stars in the show. In addition, Mary Carpenter directs the show.  Braithwaite tells stories about his twelve years of teaching Theology and Sex Education to High School Freshman. This show is hilarious, and it is brilliant, but most of all it is a show that should not be missed.

Tony Braithwaite has taken his experiences during his time teaching at a Jesuit school for boys and formed these wonderful memories into a thoroughly entertaining play. This show reminds us all how awkward being a teenager is. Braithwaite is a wonderful storyteller, and tells the audience that students may not always remember what you taught them, but will always remember how you made them feel.  He shares these stories from his life, and he takes the audience on a hilarious and heartfelt journey back with him in recalling these wonderful tales. These stories are profound, and they will stick with you even after you leave the theatre. The fantastic thing about this play is that it not only will make you laugh through the performance, but it recalls that being a teenager is complicated and confusing. There were times of laughter in this show, but there were also moving moments that you could hear a pin drop. The balance of humor, sincerity, and heart-moving stories are what makes Didn’t Your Father Have This Talk With You?  brilliant.
